Azure SQL Offsite Backups

Post by jdmarchand »

Hello,

I went through the documentation and I was not able to find the information.

A client uses Azure SQL databases. They would like offsite backups. They have B&R on-premise.

They would like offsite of the database, either towards object storage like Wasabi, or to their onprem server. Is there a way to achieve this with Veeam?
Thank you,

Hi,

This is currently not possible but we do have this on our longer roadmap to add a way to make copies of Azure SQL backups.

Feature request: offsite Azure SQL backups

Post by ivos83 »

Hi all,

I have a feature request: can it be made possible to offload backups of Azure SQL databases created with Veeam for Microsoft Azure from VBR to Wasabi or other object storage using a copy job?

At the moment this is only possible for Azure VM's of which backups are made on blob storage. The backups of Azure VM's (made bij Veeam for Microsoft Azure) can be backupped to i.e. Wasabi with a copy job from VBR.
For Azure SQL it is only possible to make backups on blob storage so there is actually no offsite backup possible. From a copy job it is not possible to select those SQL backups and to backup the entire storage account or blob container to Wasabi is not supported after consulting with Veeam technicians.

We have customer who requires to have a second backup outside of Azure.

Hi,

I’ve merged your post with the existing topic. This is still on the longer roadmap to be implemented for VDP.
